Bendable electronics

Sunday, January 31st, 2010

Technology has improved a lot, all the electronics which have reached nano technology but now they have moved to the next stage of bendable electronics. These electronic circuits can be made to fold and stretch and still do the performance of circuits built on rigid wafers. These bendable circuits are made of thin sheets of silicon on plastic or rubber; these bendable circuits could make the way for such applications as wearable computers and implantable health monitoring systems. These bendable circuits can be used in fold-able computer displays. These are possible to use ultra-thin silicon to build entire sheets of fold-able and stretchable circuits made of devices such as transistors, amplifiers, and logic gates.

Racetrack Memory

Saturday, January 30th, 2010

IBM announced today that it has entered into a joint development agreement with Taiwan’s Industrial Technology Research Institute (ITRI) to further explore Racetrack Memory, an      entirely new approach to solid state memory. In April of this year, IBM announced a milestone in its Racetrack Memory research that could lead to electronic devices capable of storing far more data in the same amount of space than is possible today, with lightning-fast boot times, far lower cost and unprecedented stability and durability. Racetrack Memory, so named because the data races around a nanowire track, could lead to solid state electronic devices – with no moving parts, and therefore more durable – capable of holding far more data in the same amount of space than is possible today.
